Originally from Taft, TX, LaRue was raised with musical roots, singing his first songs as a toddler and recorded his first works at only 12 years old. While spending his teen years in Stillwater, OK, he was absorbed by the early Red Dirt movement and spent much time co-writing with fellow Okie songwriters, Mike McClure, Jason Boland, Cody Canada, and Bob Childers.
